About Oklahoma League for the Blind

Since 1949, Oklahoma League for the Blind (OLB) has empowered blind and vision impaired individuals to achieve their maximum level of personal independence through employment, rehabilitation, and outreach.  We have touched the lives of thousands of Oklahomans through employment and training programs, rehabilitation services, education programs, youth services and community outreach.

OLB is a qualified 501(c)(3) private non-profit organization currently providing employment for over 100 people who are blind.  Programs offered by OLB serve thousands of people each year.

The Oklahoma League for the Blind generates 98 percent of its income through its own enterprise by:

  • Supplying contracted goods and services to government organizations and local businesses.
  • Manufacturing and wholesaling a diverse line of products for commercial and residential use.
  • Performing specialized services to major companies and organizations.
What is the difference in OLB's workforce and that of any other business?  The only difference is the majority of our workforce is blind or vision impaired.  With an unemployment rate of 75% among the vision impaired, the jobs provided by OLB are vital--allowing our employees to remain independent, self-supporting and contributing members of the community.

Our Mission

The mission of the Oklahoma League for the Blind is to empower blind and vision impaired individuals to achieve their maximum level of personal independence through employment, rehabilitation, and community outreach.

Fulfilling Our Mission

OLB fulfills its mission by:

  • Providing social, vocational, rehabilitative and educational services for people who are blind;
  • Serving as an advocate for the interests of the blind/vision impaired;
  • Sharing the belief that people who are blind or vision impaired are entitled to and are capable of achieving full autonomy and independence;
  • Educating the community about blindness and the prevention of vision loss.
Our History

For over half a century, the Oklahoma League for the Blind has enjoyed notable growth and prosperity.  It began in 1949 as the dream of six blind men to create training and employment opportunities for the blind and vision impaired people of Oklahoma.  OLB has far surpassed that original concept and become a viable member of the state’s business community.
