Adapted Type 2 Diabetes Program
Student to Instructor Ratio - 1:5
Cost - $75.00/hr (30-hour class)
This interactive group program is designed to promote self management of the disease for individuals with Type 2 diabetes. Training is provided by a Registered Nurse and a Registered Dietitian who specialize in diabetes education and training. Hands on labs will be provided by a Certified Vision Rehabilitation specialist who also is a licensed Occupational Therapist.
Examples of activities that will occur in the experience labs:
· Demonstration of “talking” devices such as a glucose monitor, blood pressure cuff, timer, clock, food scale
· Demonstration of safe meal preparation techniques for folks who may have numbness in fingertips or severely limited vision; cutting with a knife, pouring boiling liquids, using a cook top.
· Demonstration of techniques for personal organization of medication, charts in an accessible format (large print, tactile, Braille, audio)
· Handouts for resources in further training, websites or local outlets for products helpful to those with low vision or blindness.
Class will be held on Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please bring your lunch. We plan to eat together and have a short discussion on recreation or adjustment to blindness at this time (4 sessions).
Transportation will be provided to the individual for each class.
Be prepared to provide the following to NewView Oklahoma staff:
1. Authorization
2. Your name and contact information
3. A recent report of the condition, acuity and fields of the eyes
